Albert Einstein

It's a Fact
In the period before World War II, Albert Einstein was so well known in America that he would be stopped on the street by people wanting him to explain "that theory". He finally figured out a way to handle the incessant inquiries. He told his inquirers "Pardon me, so sorry! Always I am mistaken for Professor Einstein."

Albert Einstein has been the subject of or inspiration for many novels, films, and plays. Einstein is a favorite model for depictions of mad scientists and absentminded professors; his expressive face and distinctive hairstyle have been widely copied and exaggerated. The Star Wars character Yoda's eyes were modeled after Einstein's. and in the 1990's movie I.Q. Einstein was portrayed by Oscar winner Walter Matthau.

Sir Isaac Newton IS considered by many to be the greatest scientist of all time. The other scientist who is equal to him was a Jewish scientist who was born in Germany and is considered to be one of the greatest physicists of all time. He is none other than Albert Einstein.

Einstein is best known as the originator of the theory of relativity. He was also named the Man   of the Century by the millennium issue of Time magazine. But most people do not know that he had Lot of hardships in his early life and had to struggle to achieve success.

Einstein had his school career at Luitpold Gymnasium starting around 1891. The regimented school career with militarytype discipline, along with his school work bored him. Despite this, he cultivated an interest in mathematics but received poor grades in other subjects. He later entered ETH, a famous university in Switzerland, in 1896 and received his diploma in 1900. Among his teachers was the noted mathematician Hermann Minkowski, who later made contributions to the special theory of relativity, before Minkowski died in 1908.

After working as a mathematics teacher in a school in Aarau, he later joined the Swiss patent office in Bern, Switzerland as a patent clerk. Around this time he was working in his spare time on problems of physics, without help from anybody.

Einstein put forward his theory of relativity in 1905, in a scientific paper known as "Electrodynamics of the moving bodies". In this theory he put forward the conclusion that the laws of physics are the same for bodies moving at constant velocities. He also postulated that space and time is combined to form an entity called Spacetime and speed of light in all frames of reference is same, irrespective of the motion of the observer. i.e. every scientist who measures the velocity of light will get the same speed.

Einstein later became a professor at the German University of Prague ,ETH in Zurich and in 1914 became director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Berlin . During this time he started to discuss about aspects of Relativity which concerns itself about frames of reference which are accelerating with respect to each other. This theory also discussed gravity and superseded Newton's law of universal gravitation. This is known as general theory of Relativity, considered by physicists as the best theory about gravity so far put forward in human history. Because of the first World War, Einstein's masterwork, i.e. general theory of Relativity was not tested until 1919.1t predicted light rays would bend near a massive body like the sun and could be observed during an eclipse. This was done by a group of scientists led by Sir Arthur Eddington. After its vindication (general theory of Relativity) Einstein became world famous. He received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921. It is notable that he received this for explanation of the photo electric effect, and not directly for Relativity. This is because Relativity theory was considered controversial at this time. During this time Einstein was at the height of his talents and wanted to explain electromagnetism in a similar manner like gravity . This resulted in his version of the Unified Field theory, which was politely declined by the mainstream Physics community.
